Between Linke and Rechte Wienzeile lies the famous Naschmarkt. This is an old and traditional market place dating back to the 16th century. It stems from a time when articles were sold on the street. The Naschmarkt is the best known of the local markets and the biggest. It is a kaleidoscope of changing offerings for any avid shopper. It all depends upon which section of the street you visit and on what day of the week you arrive.
The Naschmarkt is a multi-national smorgasbord. On these streets, you can find luxury food markets, fresh vegetables, exotic herbs and fruit from all over the world. During the week, it is a farmers’ market with meat, vegetables and fruits. On Saturday, it is a large Flahmarkt or Flea Market. On Saturdays, you can find antiques and recycled goods. There are curios and bric-a-brac. You can find gently worn clothes and questionable items. It is also a good place to find an inexpensive meal of traditional foods.
