There is more than one train station in the Austrian city of Vienna. There are two large hauptbanhofen or major train stations and two smaller local stations (bahnhofen). The largest train station in Vienna is Wien Südbahnhof (Vienna South Station). All passengers from Italy, Prague and the Balkans arrive here. The trains are a mixture of InterCity (IC) and EuroCity (EC). You can catch an Express train, a super train or one of the slower trains. Most local and regional trains, however, leave from the Wien Nord-Praterstein. A station has stood on this spot since 1840. Between 1955 and 1960, a modern train station a true hauptbanhofen (main train station) replaced the old structure.

The Wien Südbahnhof, like Wien Westbahnhof, has it all. Services include a coffee shop, ATMs, storage facilities and tourist information services. It is not difficult to arrange for a taxi. You can also easily catch a tram or take a bus to the city’s center.
