You can take different types of walks or hikes in the Salzburger region. There are Alpine trails and gardens. You can take a Castle route. There are themes walks of all different types. If you happen to be near the town of Kaprun, you might want to take a hike along the Alpine Reservoirs nearby.

The giant Alpine Reservoirs, the Tauernkraftwereke (power reserves) date from the 1930s. Completion dates, however are in the 1950s. They are, if nothing else, a marvel of engineering. The complex actually consists of three dams: the Mooser, the Drossen and the Limberg. The result is two reservoirs: the Strassee Mooserboden and the Strassee Wasserfallboden. You can hike from Kaprun, but the most common way is to take a bus or car and hike along the reservoirs. There are guided tours of the dam walls. You can purchase souvenirs from a gift shop. You can also have a snack from the kiosk. The Tauernkraftwerk plant contains a small museum with documents, drawing and other material pertaining to the construction of the complex.
