Azerbaijan is a country that is situated between Asia and Europe. The country has three distinct mountain ranges, with Mount Bazarduzu having the highest peak of all three ranges at 14,645 feet. The city of Baku is the capital of the country and also has many museums including the Azerbaijan State Museum of Art and the Azerbaijan History Museum. Near the Maiden Tower in Old Baku you can take a glimpse of history that dates back to the 11th or 12th century. The Maiden Tower is a well known landmark and it is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors should also make time to travel to the small city of Sheki. It is located about 200 miles north of Baku. Within the palace grounds there is a courtyard, gardens and numerous museums. Sheki also has beautiful views of the Greater Caucasus mountain range. The English language is used minimally throughout the country. Travelers to Azerbaijan will find the Azeri, Turkish and Russian languages spoken.
