What you need to know before traveling to Barbados

Barbados is a rather small but popular island in the Atlantic. A well-liked Caribbean island resort, it provides visitors with fun-in-the-sun. The island consists of 11 different parishes. Only 2, St. Thomas and St. George, do not border on water. While the topography does not differ much, each has its own appeal. In St. Michael’s Parish, you can visit the Capital City of Bridgetown. In St. Thomas Parish, there is the 40’ underground cave system – Harrison’s Cave. In St. George Parish, you can climb up Gun Hill. This is a remaining 1818 signal station. In St. Lawrence Parish, you can catch the glitz and liveliness of St. Lawrence Gap. There is a lot you can do in and out of the water.

Barbados is famous for its water activities and natural beauty. Tourists come to explore Folkstone Marine Park. You will also not want to miss the Flower Forest, Orchid world or Andromeda Garden. For the built environment, go to Bridgetown. Here, you can see the 19th century St. Michael’s Cathedral. Some of the country’s British heritage also finds its way into the Barbados Museum. It is in the former British Military Prison. Yet, no trip to the island is complete without a taste of the country’s most popular product – rum.
