Description
The Catalonia Duques de Bergara is a refined hotel with beautiful Modernist décor and architecture. It is a great choice for the traveler that appreciates culture and wants something unique and also the location in the heart of the city of Barcelona, very near to Plaza Catalunya, Paseo de Gracia and Las Ramblas, and a few steps away from the Gothic quarter.
The hotel offers complete facilities including a swimming pool (open in the summer), located in a pleasant patio, typical of the Ensanche area in Barcelona, and 7 conference rooms fully equipped for any kind of event. During your enjoyable stay you can also sample the fabulous Mediterranean cuisine in the hotel's restaurant "El Duc", or relax in the bar.
Built in 1899 by the architect Emilio Salas y Cortes, whose most famous pupil was Antonio Gaudí, the building of the Catalonia Duques de Bergara is exemplary of Art Nouveau architecture. The most significant original features from its period have been restored and preserved, including the façade with its wide windows, and its interiors, like the marble staircase leading to the first floor, where you find magnificent Cuban mahogany doors, painted ceilings and a dome.

The hotel could not be more centrally located in the heart of Barcelona. Just a stones throw from the hotel, guests have a wide range of activities to choose from, two are recommended in particular: Take advantage of the great shopping Barcelona offers in the many shops and shopping centres or take a stroll along the Ramblas down to the Columbus monument.
If you have more spare time, you could visit Barcelona's Gothic quarter. Try not to miss the Cathedral, which was finished at the beginning of the 20th century, or the Plaça del Rei, an impressive square admired by the architect Le Corbusier and the sculptor Eduardo Chillida ideal to sit out in and enjoy a drink and some 'tapas'.

We were pleasantly surprised. an excellent location so close to the centre of the city. easy access from tthe airport via the airport bus. food was very good both breakfast excellent value and dinner well preparedI think it is poor to charge extra forthe safe

I had a very small and dark room looking into an inside patio near the air acconditioning system, therefore very noisy at night. inmediately i informed the staff at the hotel and they understood my dissapointment. the day after they gave me a wonderful room overlooking the street.The cleaner staff were very noisy in the mornings they start their daily shift around 730 - 8 am so you could hear the vaccumm cleaning and shouting at each other too early in the morning. too bad if you like sleeping till late!Stephanie Cook

Personale molto gentile e in posizione assolutamente perfettaPurtroppo la pulizia lascia un po' a desiderare, inoltre l'albergo è piuttosto vecchio (struttura, arredamento) pertanto anche la nostra camera che era una suite lasciava un po' a desiderare.
