This is a perfect accommodation for young people who are looking for a place to sleep and stash their backpack and have a limited budget. The Hostal Levante is modest and simple, with the most basic amenities, a friendly atmosphere and very decent service. The location is one of the hostel's principal advantages. Located on La Baixada de Sant Miquel, one of the little streets deep inside the Gothic Quarter, the hostel is close to famous squares like Plaça Reial and Plaça Sant Jaume. This is one of the city's most popular and happening areas, home to hip stores like Custo Barcelona and many bars and clubs that draw in a young and fashionable clientele. The hostel has 50 rooms (some without a private bath, but all with central heating), but the atmosphere is still friendly, personable and relaxed. The building which houses the hostel is also the subject of an urban legend. In the past, the building was home to a brothel, and according to legend one of its illustrious clients was the very young Picasso, who frequented the establishment during his years in Barcelona.
