Description
The Hotel Condal, which opened in 1850, is one of the oldest hotels in the city. Located on one of the loveliest streets in the historic city centre, the Calle Boquería, the hotel is in a pedestrian zone just a few metres from the Ramblas and the famous "La Boquería" market. The hotel is close to all public transports and has a perfect location in the city centre for visiting Barcelona.
The 2-star hotel was completely renovated in the year 2000 and newly furnished, keeping the original facade and completely rebuilding the interior to better match up its client's needs. The hotel has a cosy cafe-bar and has 53 rooms with satellite TV, air conditioning, safe, telephone and private bathroom.
The hotel cafeteria serves an a la carte breakfast .This family-run hotel puts customer service above all else. It is a spotlessly clean place located right in the city centre that offers good quality at very reasonable prices.

On the web site, there could be clearer directions on how to locate the hotel, such as it is located about 30 meters from the rampas about half way down from plaza catalunya to colum.Anonymous

You guys getting a pleasant young lady to call me internationally on my mobile after my emails were not replied to. no problems with hotel.No fault of hotel but hundreds of blatant obvious scam artists and petty criminals allowed to rob tourists in the stations, airports, metro, port, beaches, monuments, colon, rambla, raval and gracia areas, with complete impunity by guardia civil and policia urbana. ec should withdraw all funding from this failing catalan authority until extensive cctv is actually used and police force is purged. even in the southern spanish districts like malaga this would be completely unacceptable. five women we warned were still robbed within 5 minutes of arrival at the estacion nord/arc de triomphe metro at exactly the location we predicted (the ticket machine). a british police team would clear out the city centre criminals in days. Very convenient location, helpful friendly staff. very clean and simply decorated with easy to use safe for valuables. lift to floors meant easy access to room, short walk with luggage from taxi drop off to hotel along a pedestrian alley way. really easy place to stay for our first visit to barcelona. would book it again for next stay in city.NoMikengarvey@gmail.com

This was our second visit to the hotel condal. the first was enjoyable but we found the 1st floor room a little noisey so requested a room on a higher floor for the second stay. the hotel obliged by giving us an excellent(& quiet)room on the 4th floor at the rear of the hotel.we enjoyed our stay immensely & in fact have already recommended the condal to several of our friends.Only having to leave at the end of the holiday!BERMEO

At the first instance we found that the staff were friendly and accepting, allowing us to leave and return at our own pleasure. the room was of excellent quality being cleaned every morning without fail. the room was smaller than we had anticipated, due to the photos on the website, however we made the most of it and found that the room size was not an issue. the hotel staff and the quality of hotel condal made our holiday very enjoyable and presented us with wonderful memories of spain. Very good value hotel, even though its a 2 star the rooms were spotless and the maids came in every morning. we were surprised to find free use of safe and air conditioning in the room, definitely added bonuses.

our only real negative experience of the hotel were the reception staff. my partner and i were disgusted at the attitude of a couple of them. when we arrived there, we were greeted with a grunt from a very miserable and rude man, he didn't even look at us or say hello, basic politeness was non-existent.
when we went out for breakfast on the morning of our departure, they were very pushy for payment, and it was a good hour before we were due to check out. this time it was a different man, but still experienced the same rude and miserable attitude that we had from other people at reception. this is just not acceptable.Ann White

The hotel condal is in a great location!!! it is close to many tourist attractions, and was easy to find. the staff we dealt with were very pleasant, and also spoke english.The room was not what we expected at all. we realise that it was a 2 star hotel but the website said that it had been upgraded. our room was absolutely tiny, the bathroom door was right by the bed and did not close and the safe didn't work. also, one morning, there was no hot water so we couldn't have a shower. The hotel is in a excellent location within barcelona even though the street which it is situated is a bit dirty and run down.
the room was spacious and clean. air conditioning worked well and helped drown some of the noise out from the street below.
in general the hotel is very clean and in a good location. you get what you pay for.
On the negative side, the staff were far from helpful. the room had no tea of coffee facilities and the café was only open until 12 noon.
we were based in the front of the hotel on the 5th level and the noise from the street was extremely loud. i would suggest you take some earplugs.
most of the staff were difficult to approach and far from friendly.
finally the street outside was noisy and dirty. as times we felt uneasy walking down the street due to beggars.
this hotel is a very good hotel for young couples that would be out all of the time and not go to bed until really late at night, otherwise this hotel is not ideal for families.
