The General Hospital Middelheim has 600 beds and all the services demanded by local residents. Their major specialty focuses on breast cancer and they have a top-notch team of a gynecologic oncologist, surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, radiologists, pathologists and breast nurses. They also offer plastic surgery that can perform just about any kind of reconstruction including free flap. General Hospital Middelheim offers their patients a multi-disciplinary approach to treating the whole patient, even providing genetic risk counseling and full psychological support. Each year they operate on 200 new cases and worked with another 150 or more referred to them for radiotherapy.

This up-to-date hospital provides some of the best high tech breast services in Belgium including ultrasound, mammography, MRI, computer tomography, petscan and a device for stereo tactic biopsies (Mammotome). On average the hospital performs 4,500 mammograms a year and offers a screening service as well.
