The Zimmer Tower in Lier, Belgium is also called the Cornelius tower. It was originally a keep in the 14th century fortifications of the city and was likely built about 1425. A keep is a strong central tower that normally forms the heart of a castle. In 1812 the tower was slated for demolition. But in 1928 well known astronomer and clock maker Louis Zimmer built the Jubilee (Centenary) Clock you will find displayed on the front of the tower.

The marvelous clock is actually 12 clocks circling a central one with 57 dials. The clocks showed the time on all continents, phases of the moon, times of tides and other periodic information. The city so liked the clock they had it put in the old tower, but not without some significant reconstruction to accommodate the clock. The clock once safely in its new home in the Cornelius Tower was bestowed with a new name – the Zimmer Tower. There's way more than meets the eye when you see the Zimmer Tower. Pay attention to the wonder-clock in the next tower. You'll definitely be taking lots of pictures here.
