Going to Belgium and want to do some first-class shopping? Head to Antwerp, Belgium and the local shopping area The Meir. It is the most famous shopping street of Antwerp. It no longer allows traffic so it makes your shopping experience much more pleasurable. This district stretches roughly from Our Lady's Cathedral to Central Station.

Aside from some terrific stores to browse in this street can also brag about some really impressive historic buildings. The most important one is the Osterrieth house at number 85. It was built between 1745-1746 by architect Van Baurscheit in Rococo-style. You'll be amazed when you find out the middle section was almost literally carved out with a chisel and is decorated with a monumental fronton. It now houses the Paribas Belgium bank and has on display a remarkable collection of Belgian paintings. Don't miss the house at number 50 either. It's the former Royal Residence of the Belgian Kings in Antwerp, built by the same architect that built Osterrieth house. This house is now used for expositions and for the film museum.
