Hotels near Haverwerf in Antwerp - Best deals & budget rates!

The Haverwerf attraction in Mechelen is really something to see as it boasts one very rare building from the 16th century that features wood fronted architecture. The Haverwerf, from the 14th century, was where oats were shipped into the city and were subsequently traded from. The trader's houses that run along the front of the wharf are totally remarkable and speak loudly about how much money the traders made.

Interesting note: there are three trader's houses in particular that will capture your fancy. These particular three homes reflect the era when Mechelen raised taxes on salt, oats and fish – goods that traveled along the river Dyle. The central building is called the Little Devils (De Duiveltjes) and is from the 16th century. It is really rare to have a wood fronted building survive for that long. The home on the left of the Little Devils is St. Joseph house from the 17th century, and the one to the right of Little Devils is The Little Eden.
