The Mechelen Toy Museum is a really nifty place for your children (and you) to visit and don't be worried about them being bored. There are actually workshops your children can participate in that shows them all about doll making. The Mechelen Toy Museum officially opened its doors in 1982, but of course the dream began before that. It all started in 1980 when an exhibit of games and toys led to the founding of the Center for Toys and Folk Art. By 1981 (late Autumn) 2,400 square meters was rented and the Toy Museum was ready to roll.
The Mechelen Toy Museum didn't stay on the first floor only. It gradually expanded to the second floor of the building and currently has 10,000 square meters of space to make use of. This isn't a stay at home type of museum by the way. It prides itself on being international in scope and has been known to participate in exhibitions in China, the USA and Japan. In fact, in 1995 the Museum received the title of “Cultural Ambassador of Flanders”. It's a guaranteed fact that you will be totally amazed by one of the largest toy collections in the world featuring toys from the past and present.
