Mont des Arts/kunstberg Brussels
Mont des Arts Park, while a park and a garden, is an intriguing area halfway between Brussels' Park and the gardens of Petit Sablon and Egmont. In reality it is the transition between the upper town and lower town areas of Brussels. Otherwise known as the Arts Hill, this leads to the Royal Museums of Fine Arts. The nice thing about this particular site is you will find a formal park that makes the link/transition between the Renaissance-Gothic setting of the attraction Grand'Place and the classic Place Royale and Palais de Charles de Lorraine.
Look for the statue of King Albert 1st (Roi-Chevalier or Knight King) one of the best-loved Belgian monarchs. King Albert led the Belgian army during WW I and is credited with setting up the resistance army in Flanders that the Germans could not breach. The King has led his army to flood the polders to stop their advance. On the other side of the street there is also a monument to King Albert's wife, Queen Elizabeth a much-loved patron on the arts. Look also for the Royal Library Albert 1st, and the Museum of the Music Instrument. You can literally spend hours wandering through this area and have to come back to make sure you saw everything.
