The Museum of Art and History located in Brussles, Belgium is the best place to find a succinct overview of mankind on the five continents. It covers the time periods from prehistoric to the present. The Museum of Art and History was founded in 1835 and located in Hallepoort/Porte de Hal – which was one of the last remaining medieval city gates of Brussels. It was transferred over to new pavilions in Cinquantenaire Park in 1889.
The Museum of Art and History has many masterpieces that will capture your fancy from a relief with representation of Queen Teje of Egpyt, circa 1360 BC to a golden ornament for a Celtic drinking horn from Belgium circa 400 BC. Then there is the amazing set of 10 wall tapestries with the history of Jacob (Brussels, 1528-1534) and a colossal statue of Pou hakakanonga from Easter Island, between 1000 and 1680. The collection itself at the Museum of Art and History is stunning and richly depicts what life was like in many other locations of the world. In particular the Egypt collection is quite intriguing and features a sculpture called the Lady of Brussels circa 2650 BC. It is considered to be one of the oldest Egyptian sculptures of a woman.
