Mons Hotels and Accommodation
The city of Mons is the capital city of province of Hainaut, in Belgium. The old town in Mons is a “must see” location with many great points of interest including The Grand Palace, which as well as being a marvelous sight, is also the setting for the annual replay of the battle of the Lumeçon, when St George allegedly confronted the dragon. The spectacle lasts for half an hour and is preceded by a full costumed procession through the streets. The re-enacted battle of the Lumeçon is part of a week of festivals that take place on Trinity Sunday every year. This is a tradition that dates back to the fifteenth century. In front of the City Hall, (a magnificent Gothic building repositioned in The Grand Place at the centre of the old town in the 15th century) stands the statue of a monkey. Passers by are said to get good luck if they pat its head. Other points of interest in the old town include The Spanish House (16th century), and The Belfry (17th century) which is the only Baroque style Belfry in the whole of Belgium and is now a World Heritage site.
