Basilique Saint-Martin is a must see church when you visit Liege, Belgium. It was built in the 10th century and held a position of awe in the city until it was destroyed by fire in 1312. It seems there was an ongoing feud between the then guilds and the nobility. And, rather than solve it peacefully, the church got caught in the middle. Basilique Saint-Martin was rebuilt in the form you see it in today in the 16th century, and featured a star covered choir, and stunning stained glass windows dating from 1526-1536. You'll also see 14 marble plaques in the first side chapel on the right by Delcour. These plaques commemorate the initiation of the feast of Corpus Christi.

Other things worth seeing while you are in the Basilique Saint-Martin are the mausoleum of Eracle, the 16th century crucifix and the 16th century polychrome wooden statue of Our Lady of Saint Severin. But the best artifact to view is in the crypt. The black marble recumbent statue of Conrad de Grave, the provost of St. Martin (1602) This museum is open for touring on request.
