The Tchantches Museum is rather a lot of fun as it is really built on a myth, but it is part of the fabric of Liege, Belgium – a part of their very spirit. Tchantches is a wooden puppet character from local lore, supposedly born in 760 AD in Djus-d'la-Mouse between two cobblestones. The story goes his first cry was for gin and not mother's milk. He was apparently good company, but rebellious and somewhat of a drunk. Tchantches lived on the streets and came to the attention of Charlemagne's court, rescuing the knights when they fought the Saracens.

Tchantches had a wife by the name of Nanesse who ruled the roost. So Tchantches minded his P's and Q's while at home. Once done with the heart and home routine, both dispersed for their favorite haunts. Tchantches to drink of course! And so went the rounds of the City for this man made of wood – bar to bar, drink to drink and to party in between. To this day you can still see and hear Tchantches in his puppet theatres that play across the town during the tourist season. And of course, you can always stop by his museum to see what he's all about.
