It's not often you get a really good chance to see the history of a city in such a remarkable forum as the Archéoforum, underneath the Place St. Lambert in Liege, Belgium. The whole idea behind this unusual museum is the exhibits show the artifacts found during a series of excavations between 1907 and today. They were archaeological digs and were quite the coup when it was realized that what they found represented almost 9,000 years of history.

You enter the Archéoforum on the ilot Tivoli and are then almost immediately immersed in the first of ten scenographic settings – each with its own audio-visual component. The most interesting point is the crypt dedicated to St. Lambert and the remains of the Vieux Marche. The history of Liege, also known as the Cite Ardente is amazing, and will give you a good perspective on just what made Liege the city is it today. This site can only be visited if you are accompanied by a specialist guide.
