The House of the Metallurgic Industry while sounding rather dull, is actually something well worth visiting while you are in Liege, Belgium. In fact, the museum itself is housed in a former industrial building. The major focus of the House of the Metallurgic Industry is on the industrial development of the area. Included in the exhibits is an outstanding reconstruction of an authentic 19th century forge. Look also for the quite intriguing picture of a 14th century steel mill. Quite the difference between then and now!

The House of the Metallurgic Industry is divided up into several sections and one of them actually features the famous (or perhaps that is infamous) zinc bathtub of Napoleon. You'll also find a very good exhibit about how energy creation evolved. Look for things like the Marly machine and the Zenobe Gramme. The Marly machine was a civil engineering marvel at the bottom of the hill of Louveciennes, on the banks of the Seine about 12 kms from Paris. Louis XIV had it constructed to pump water from the river to his chateaux of Versailles and Marly. Zenobe Gramme invented the Gramme machine in 1869. It was a type of direct current dynamo capable of generating smoother and higher voltages than the dynamos known to that point.
