One landmark you need to see when in Liege, Belgium is Place St. Lambert a stunning building often considered to be THE most awesome edifice in the city. Place St. Lambert is the former palace of the Prince-Bishops of Liege. These days however you'll mostly find lawyers meeting there as it is not the Palace of Justice. The palace was first constructed in 1526 by order of Prince-Bishop Everard van der Marck. What will draw your eye first is the eclectic mix of styles. The main façade, which is the entrance from St. Lambert's Square, was erected in 1737- and it reflects the French architectural style of the 18th century. The outside of the Place St. Lambert is in Italian Renaissance style, the interior Gothic. The best place to see how distinct these two styles is would be in the inner square where the transition from late gothic to early Renaissance is quite evident. Inside you will still find the original decoration from the second half of the 16th century on such as wall tapestries, painted wall-paper etc.
