If the early periods of history are something you are really interested in then, the definitely take a jaunt to see the Musee Gaumais in Virton, province of Luxembourg, Wallonia, Belgium. You'll have a chance to see some stunning prehistoric archaeology exhibits from the Celtic, Roman, Merovingian and mediaeval periods in Gaume. But best of all, you will be awed by the bas-relief of the reaper of Treviria. You'll also see recreations of kitchens and bedrooms from the 18th century.

Tucked away in other corners of this museum you will find religious art by Brother Abraham d'Orval, gold and silverware, and scared statuary. Interesting note: this museum is unusual in the respect that it actually deals with ancient customs and beliefs from the area including religious, medical and magical. The customs of the time held that these practices would ward off sickness and evil. This museum was opened in 1937and is housed in the remains of the Recollets monastery erected at the end of the 16th century.
