The Musée Pharmaceutique d'Orval is a companion building, if you will, to the Orval Musée Historique et Monastique de l'Abbaye d'Orval in Villers-Devant-Orval, province of Luxembourg, Wallonia, Belgium. It's really the most fascinating building with a very unique history. It is a single builindg that is actually a stand alone room (independet of the monastery) and is loacted opposite the medicinal herb garden. This musuem was rebuilt in the early 1930's. It and the herb garden opened in 1935.
Inside you will find an outstanding 18th century scale used to measure ingredients in pharmaceutical concoctions made by the resident pharmacist Friar. Although the scales have been restored, they bring to life what it was like in earlier times to carefully weigh out medicinal herbs for patients. You'll also get a chance to view a beautiful collection of glass and Delft pots used in the pharmacy. Of course the museum would not be complete without period furniture, stone and cast iron mortars, pill making equipment and even stills.
