Rochefort Hotels and Accommodation
Rochefort is in the province of Namur in the Walloon region of Belgium, close to the Ardennes and since the 19th Century the town has been a resort. Rochefort takes its name from the old castle at the edge of the city, which is pre 1600s and suffered severe damage in the siege of 1636. The area has been inhabited for a long time because Iron Age remains have been found nearby. When you visit Rochefort, it is worth making a trip to the red marble quarries of St. Remy just outside of the city, along with seeing the Trappist Monastery of the same name. The abbey, now a seminary, is famous for its brewing of dark and sweet beers. Also worth seeing are the caves known as the grottos of Rochefort, along with the chapel of the Madonna of Loreto.
