Hôpital Notre-Dame à la Rose although originally a hospital, is now considered to be a quite interesting museum of the life of the religious community that once lived there and the medical care and treatment they provided. Located in Lessines, province of Hainaut, Wallonia, this fascinating hospital/museum covers the years 1242 to 1980. Find all sorts of furniture, books, statues, liturgical ornaments etc. along with a really comprehensive history of pharmacy, medicine and hospitalization conditions.

The Notre-Dame à la Rose Hospital is one of the last examples of a complete autarkic (self sufficient) hospital complex that tells the story of how hospitals were run under the Ancien Regime. On your tour of this complex you will see the main building with convent and hospital built around a Gothic cloister – complete with Renaissance, Flemish and Baroque features. The farm garden – featuring many medicinal plants – is quite eye catching.. This is now considered to be a major heritage site.
