The most intriguing museum in Bruges is the Choco-Story Museum that will appeal to all your senses. This interesting building was at one time a wine tavern in the 1500s a pie bakery in the 1700's, and in the 1900s it was a furniture workshop. It now plays host to the story of chocolate and the cocoa bean. Of course you can also buy Belgian chocolates in the gift shop. Although Bruges is somewhat off the beaten track, any died in the wool chocoholic knows this is THE true home of the world's most famous chocolate. It's an hour's drive on excellent highways from Brussels, and a northern suburb, Zeebrugge, is a terminus for the cross-channel ferries.

The Choco-Story museum is the creation of Eddie Van Belle and his son Cedric. Their family owned business (chocolate business – Belcolade) is a world-renowned provider of marvelous concoctions chefs and connoisseurs rave about. Belcolade, founded in 1988 and based in nearby Erembodegem, is the only producer of authentic Belgian chocolate that is still Belgian-owned. Belgian law dictates any merchandise with the name "chocolate" MUST contain at least 35 percent pure cocoa. In 1924 the law was tweaked to read dark chocolate MUST have 45 percent cocoa and 50 per cent sugar. This museum can definitely be called a treat.
