A trip to Tournai, Belgium will give you plenty of things to talk about when you get home. Grab your camera and take a wander in the Saint-Brice area of Tournai where you can see several buildings in the Romanesque style. The first one of significant historical interest is the Saint Brictius church, and quite close to that is where the tomb of Childerik, the father of Clovis, was discovered in 1653.

Many of the homes in this area are a must to go see. In fact it is said that these homes rank among the oldest examples of homes built for the richer citizens of Europe at that period of time. Marvel at the Pont-des-Trous, a bridge that spans the River Scheldt that was part of the 13th century walls around Tournai. Then a bit further along in your tour, you will see the Place Verte, a round tower reminiscent of the days when Henry VIII of England occupied Tournai. The Place Vert was also a part of the fortifications around the city and was dated as being built in the 16th century.
