Fours à Chaux might not be something you would ordinarily think of touring, but the lime kilns at Antoing are worth visiting if only to realize how the furnaces burnt limestone to make whitewash. Whitewash of course is one of the major exterior components used on many of the homes in Belgium, both historically and currently. But the furances don't just burn limestone. Towards the end of the 19th century and during the beginning of the 20th century they were used for natural cement.

The Lime Kilns at Antoing provide you with a guide who takes you through the whole process and explains the evoluation of the industry. Interesting note: this particular industry has been present in this region for the past 2000 years. If you wish to book a tour of this monument, contact the Office du Tourisme d'Antoing.
