Paraty is located along what is known as the Costa Verde, or green coast of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The town’s beautiful scenery and mountains have made it a popular tourist spot in recent years. There’s no shortage of things to see and do in Paraty, as the town is surrounded by national parks. Of these, the Serra do Mar State Park should not be missed, and contains within it the village of Trindade. The town of Paraty was founded in 1667 by its Portuguese colonizers, and in 1696 the Minas Gerais, some of the richest gold mines in the world were discovered, but the gold started to run out around the turn of the 18th Century. There are four major churches in the area. Two of these, the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows and the First Church of Our Lady of the Remedies date back to the 18th Century, and are worth a visit. There are festivals in almost every month of the year, and these are a great tourist attraction. You can fly to either Sao Paulo or Rio de Janeiro Airport and then take a car or bus trip to Paraty.
