Accommodation & places to visit in Rio de Janeiro

The former capital of Brazil, Rio de Janeiro is one of the world’s most beautiful cities and spectacular natural harbors. Founded on Guanabara Bay’s west side in 1565, in the 18th century Rio de Janeiro developed rapidly when it became an important gold shipment port.

Running since 1896, a tram ride to Santa Tereza is a wonderful way to see the quiet, steep streets and old homes occupied by well-known intellectuals and artists. No visit to Rio de Janeiro would be complete without a trip to the 2.5-mile long Copacabana beach. Just off the Copacabana beach are some of Rio de Janeiro’s best restaurants, hotels, nightspots, and street cafés. The Natural Museum in the Palácio de Sâo Cristóvâo houses a huge archaeological, zoological and botanical collection.
