Carnival is an important event in Rio de Janeiro and a popular time for Brazil tourism. However, whether or not you visit Brazil during carnival, a visit to the Sambodrome will make you feel like you are part of the carnival experience. Sambodrome is a fixed parade ground, built in 1984. It covers approximately 700 meters of Marques de Sapucai street and has bleachers on both sides with a seating capacity of about 65,000 spectators. The Sambodrome is used for the samba school parades that compete for four consecutive nights during carnival. These parades are very competitive and televised to the whole nation.

The Sambodrome includes an area at the end of the parade route that creates a square for celebrating after the parade. Outside of carnival season the venue is used for international concerts. The Sambodrome is one of the fun things to do in Brazil any time of year.
