One of the first amusement parks in Bulgaria, Sofialand opened its doors in 2002 with roller coasters, a bowling alley, a video-game station, and lots of food vendors and shops. The main building for the park also featured several movie theaters. Unfortunately, the park was officially closed down in October of 2006, with plans to redevelop it or possibly to rebuild the park in a different location. However, some of the other places to go in and around the city of Sofia include Mt. Vitosha, the Sofia Zoo, and Sky City Mall, to name just a few.
Sofialand was located south of the city center, near to the National Palace of Culture. If you will be visiting, there are a number of four- and five-star hotels in Sofia, as well as discount hotels for the shoestring-budget traveler.
