The origins of Sveti Sedmochislenitsi Church date back to 1528, when it was originally built by the Ottomans as a mosque. When the dark granite minaret for which the mosque was named the "Black Mosque" collapsed in an earthquake in the 1800's, the building was abandoned. Renovation to convert it into a Christian church began in 1901 and finished a year later, though decoration of the inner chambers continued right up until 1996. Translated "Seven Saints" Church, the reconstructed edifice is named after Cyril and Methodius and their five disciples. Other places to go in the city of Sofia include the Russian Orthodox Church, the Monument to the Soviet Army, and Dragalevtsi Monastery, to name just a few.
Sveti Sedmochislenitsi Church is located close to the city center, close to the Ivan Vazov National Theater.
