Dragalevtsi Monastery, also known as Virgin Mary of Vitosha, is one of the oldest monasteries in Bulgaria, dating back to 1345. Spared destruction by the Ottoman conquerors, it was then abandoned by its monks until 1476, when it was renovated by Radoslav Mavar and decorated with beautiful frescoes, many of which still adorn the walls today. Be sure to also see some of the other sights in the city, such as Boyana Church, the National Art Gallery, and, of course, Sofia Zoo.

Located on the outskirts of the city, the Monastery is at the base of Mount Vitosha, just about thirty minutes away from downtown Sofia .
