Mount Vitosha is the majestic mountain at the base of which lies the present-day city of Sofia. Rising to nearly 7,000 feet, the peak (known as "Black Peak" in Bulgarian) is now the site of a weather station, while the rest of the mountain has been a national park since 1934.
