The Monument to the Soviet Army is a controversial but nonetheless dominating sculpture in Sofia, celebrating socialism and its place in Bulgaria for more than fifty years. Though the City Council voted to remove it in 1993, the sculpture lives on due to lack of funds for its removal. The monument itself consists of a (presumably) Bulgarian couple following a Red Army soldier into the bright future of communism. Some of the sights to see nearby include: Boris Gardens, Orlov Most, and Sofia University.

Located close to the eastern entrance to the city, the Monument is an illuminating anachronism back to the days when communism reigned in Bulgaria.
