The Sofia Synagogue is one of Europe's largest synagogues and was opened in 1909 to serve the burgeoning local Jewish community living in Sofia at the time. Several aspects of the Synagogue make it a notable monument: the massive octagonal dome atop the building, the rich interior decorations of marble and woodcarving, and the massive chandelier inside the Synagogue—the largest in the country.
The Synagogue is located in the center of Sofia, just across from the Market Hall. Other places to visit in the city of Sofia include the National Museum of History, Boyana Church, and the National Art Gallery, to name just a few.
