As one of the oldest train stations in Bulgaria, Varna's current train station building was officially opened in 1925, but the old steel rails have a much longer history than that in the city. Agatha Christie fans will remember the novel Murder on the Orient Express, which stopped at the previous station in Varna from 1883 to 1885.
Located west of the city, the Train Station is right at the southern tip of the city, just down from the beach. Today the station has lines to Sofia, Plovdiv, Karnobat (near Burgas), and many other cities. Some of the things to see in Varna include the golden sand Varna Beach, the Necropolis, and the Dormition of the Theotokos Cathedral.
