What you need to know before traveling to Santiago

Santiago is a province in the country of Chile. The majority of the province is flat, but there are hilly areas, some actually being extinct volcanoes. Within the province you can find the city of Santiago, which is the country’s capital; the capital has become a bustling metropolitan area and is the center of shopping in Santiago. Santiago tourism is favored both by the imposing presence of the Andes Mountain Range and by the very active Santiago culture. Indeed, many of the attractions in Santiago and the surrounding area have to do with the excellent skiing conditions created by the Andes; there are at least three major ski establishments within an hour of the city.

While you’re visiting Santiago you’ll be able to wander through numerous museums, such as Santiago Archaeological Museum and the Museo Nacional de Bella Artes. Other Santiago sights located within the capital are the Central Station, designed by the famous Gustave Eiffel, the Plaza de Armas and the Palacio de La Moneda, where you might see the President of the Chilean Republic. Santiago attractions are not found simply in the capital, though; indeed, during your weekend in Santiago, head to the commune of Providencia to check out the Barrio Suecia for its lively nightlife and Barrio Bellavista for its artsy ambiance.
