As the capital city for Chile, visitors may find that Santiago is too loud and too busy; luckily there are many places that provide a quiet refuge. The Parque Forestal is such a refuge and a much welcome place of relaxation for both locals and tourists. Shady walkways, grassy areas, and benches to rest weary feet, the Parque Forestal is a welcome spot. Parque Forestal seems to call out to everyone imaginable. It is not unusual to see blankets with trinkets and vendors hoping for a sale as you walk through the park. There are even entertainers such as jugglers, mimes, and puppeteers that enthrall children and spectators with their skill and humor.
After construction of a canal along the Mapocho River in 1891, the area that would become the park became available. Construction began in 1900 and resulted in one of the best places to relax in all of Santiago.
