The National Museum of Natural History can be found in Santiago in the Quinta Normal Park. Along with the Museums of Fine Arts and History, this museum is an important institution both artistically and culturally. The museum was founded in 1830 with aid of the University of San Felipe which is now the University of Chile. The Museum was renovated and reinvigorated in 2004 after suffering extensive deterioration in the 1980s. The National Museum of Natural History has five distinct sections divided by themes. The Anthropology section features archaeology and other items of same interest. There is also a section devoted to Botany, Zoology, Mineralogy, and Paleontology.
