The origins of the Park Quinta Normal have its roots in adapting foreign plant species to the climate of Chile. The park started in 1841 under the guidance of Claudio Gay, a French naturalist. At this time the Park was outside of Santiago and was eventually enveloped by the city when it extended its boundaries. There are several buildings and sights of interest located in the 40 hectare area of the Park Quinta Normal. The Natural History Museum is housed in a neoclassical building that dates back to 1875, the Science and Technology Museum and Railway Museum are also in the Park Quinta Normal.
Park Quinta Normal is a beautiful place with towering trees and a variety of plant and bird species. Along with the shaded paths and the lake, visitors should take time to visit the museums and greenhouse that is located on the grounds of the park. Park Quinta Normal is a wonderful place to visit with the family and is very popular with the locals of Santiago.
