Xuanwumen Catholic Church Beijing

Xuanwumen Catholic Church, which is called The Southern Cathedral, also known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, is the oldest Catholic Church in Beijing. The Cathedral was rebuilt in 1657 during the Qing Dynasty. This cathedral went through a terrible earthquake in1775 and in 1900 which severely damaged it, luckily it was then rebuilt in 1904 to its present day form. The only thing changed about the main components of the building is that the once wooden support columns, have since been replaced by stone mosaic decorated columns made from brick and mortar.
