One of many interesting “show caves” to see when visiting Beijing, the Shihuadong Cave, also known as the “Stone Flower Cave”, is a famous attraction for tourists and a large part of Chinese culture and history. The cave is navigated by tour guides, who take you through several levels of caverns and willingly explain the significance of the many sights along the way.
Important landmarks within the cave include an enormous drop off which provides an excellent opportunity for photographs. In the first chamber, be sure to take note of the three ancient statues of Buddha that date from approximate 1456. Further down in the cave, you’ll find such sights as the famous Immortal Needle, a physics-defying rock formation that measures three meters high, but less than one tenth the thickness. In addition to its own merits, Shihuadong is also popular among Beijing attractions for its proximity to other famous landmarks in the area, such as the Silver Fox cave.
