Hotels near Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong - Best deals & budget rates!

Horse racing fans will enjoy staying the Happy Valley Racecourse. This is one of just two horse racing venues in Hong Kong, and is located on Hong Kong Island in Happy Valley. The racecourse dates from 1845 when it was first built to provide the British with horse racing entertainment. To do so, the government had to transform the swampland that once existed there. But it was the only flat ground in the area that would serve as a race course. There is also a tragic part of the Happy Valley Racecourse’s story. The venue was the site of one of the worst fires in Hong Kong’s history.

Today, visitors can enjoy more than horse racing at the Happy Valley Racecourse. The track is built so that several sports fields lie within the track. Hockey, rugby, and football fields are all on site and used for matches. Plus, the Hong Kong Jockey Club Archive and Museum provides interesting exhibits on the history of horses, racing, and the Sha Tin Racecourse. You can also visit the gift shop at the museum for those special souvenirs. First race normally starts at 7:30 pm, with an admission fee. Unfortunately, no one under the age of 18 is permitted in the racecourse.
