Founded in 1541, this quiet little colonial town was once the capital. Time has seemingly stood still here, and the community looks much as it did in an earlier era.The present capital of Antioquia is Medellin, the second largest city in Colombia. Medellin has thrown off much of its bad reputation from the days of the drug lords to become one of the top tourist destinations in Colombia. Because of its excellent climate, Medellin has been called The City of Eternal Spring. Along Avenue Poblado is the Milla de Oro (Golden Mile). This is the hot spot for shopping, bars, casinos, and the citys best restaurants. Among Medellins many fine museums are the Museo de Antioquia and the Museo de Arte Moderno, both of which have wonderful art collections. Medellins most important church is the 18th century Basilica de la Candelaria on Parque Berrio.
