The Elafiti Islands, or Deer or Elaphite Islands, lie north of Dubrovnik. The chain consists of three large inhabited islands and several small, uninhabited islands. The main islands are Lopud, Koločep and Šipan.
You can stay a week or a weekend. The Elafiti Islands can provide you with sufficient means of entertainment. On Šipan there are two peaceful villages on two separate bays. Here you can see the ruins of several of the 30 churches that once dotted the island. On Lopud, you can spend hours on the sandy beaches or enjoy various water sports, including snorkeling, diving, kayaking and swimming. You can bicycle everywhere and visit the only settlement, Lopud with its 15th century Franciscan Monastery. On Koločep, there are pine forests and olive groves, stone houses and exotic gardens.
