On the island of Ciovo in the Split Dalmatia region, you will find excellent budget hotels in Slatine, Croatia for enjoying the Adriatic Coast. Slatine is small, with about 6,100 residents, and its main sources of income are tourism and fishing. The town and the island are popular with Italians, and you may hear or see the town referred to by its Italian name of Bagno di Bua. With the popular, cheap hotels in Slatine and the number of tourists that visit each year, it’s difficult to believe that the entire area was once an isolated leper colony.
If you can drag yourself away from the seaside, there is plenty to see in Slatine and on Ciovo. There are the ruins of the Church of St. Peter, a pre-Romanesque church that is found in the Supertar Cove. In nearby Zedno, visit the well-preserved Church of St. Maurice or the Church of Our Lady Near the Sea. About 5 kilometers outside of Trogir you can find the 15th century Church and Monastery of the Holy Cross. There is also an interesting hermitage in Prizidnice, built in 1546 by a priest and hermit, J Strojdrazic. He carved an inscription in the church’s façade, dedicating it to Mary of the Blessed Conception.
