The colonial period of Cuba was a turbulent era, consisting of swashbucklers and buccaneers, the mighty British Empire, Spanish conquest, and much more. Being that the city of Havana has always been a profitable location for mercantilism during the last four centuries, it comes as no surprise that it has been the frequent target of pirates looking to loot during the age of exploration. In light of this fact, the Wall of Havana was proposed to protect the city from these vagabonds and ensure safety to both the city's citizens and the economy therein.
Nevertheless, the immense wall, although imposing on invaders, could not stop Havana itself from growing and as such part of the wall was demolished in 1603. Today the remains stand as a testament to the extremely rich past of Cuba's place in the Caribbean, making it a wonderful stop for any Cuban tourist wanting to view a beautiful scene of the Cuban landscape.
