Located in Havana, this fascinating memorial and museum is dedicated to the legacy of renowned revolutionary, poet and writer Jose Marti. Consisting of a tower in the shape of a five-pointed star, a statue of the revolutionary circled by six columns, and several gardens, this wonderful building had its design carefully selected from several entries in a competition series beginning in 1939 with construction beginning in 1953, the 100th anniversary of Marti's birth.
This remarkable monument is not only a brilliant sight in itself but also a comprehensive museum, possessing several floors that maintain a thorough collection of the great individual's personal belongings as well as informative displays with facts on his life, numerous historical documents related to the country's revolution, and an entire area dedicated to the display of contemporary art. Particularly recommended to Cuban tourists is a breathtaking view from the top floor -- it's the highest point in the city!
